Writer, and all around super fun and nice guy, Tim Sheridan, took time from his busy table at Calgary Expo 2024 to talk to me about his work to date—from animated features to comic books and everything in between. We started off chatting about Sheridan’s animation career—he got his start in animation on a series called JUSTICE LEAGUE: ACTION. An all-ages series comprised of 11-minute cartoons, and not soon after this, he was offered to write REIGN OF THE SUPERMAN, but heres how Sheridan says the conversation went:

“The folks at Warner Brothers liked what I was doing enough to ask me if I would be interested in adapting Reign of the Superman as an animated movie. They were doing Death of Superman, and they wanted to do a followup….As I recall, they said 'would you be intersted in doing the Death of Superman Part 2?’ And I said, REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN?! And they said: ‘Oh, yeah, that’s what it is.’”

He goes on to reveal that when he was a kid, he didn’t buy the comics for Death of Superman, but instead was drawn to buying Reign of the Superman when it started because all the new characters was exciting. Sheridan goes on to talk about how animated features very much differ from the comics and his outlook on it. After this, he also got to work on many other titles, including Batman The Long Halloween, Superman Man of Tomorrow adaptations, as well as an episode of Teen Titans Go! Moving forward, he co-created two big prequel series for Dark Horse Comics with Master of the Universe: Revelation, and Revolution, working with Kevin Smith on those, as well as the absolutely stellar Netflix Masters of the Universe series. And now, Sheridan just wrapped up the first comic title Alan Scott has had in almost 75 years, with his writing for his co-creator series ALAN SCOTT: GREEN LANTERN. Sheridan addresses the fact DC previously revealed new information about Alan Scott, but didn’t do anything with it:

“DC had introduced big information about Alan Scott several years ago, in Infinite Frontier #0, where he came out of the closet to his kids, but there was no story around it…I think fans were hungry for ‘okay, why do we know this information? What does this say about him. Tell me more.‘“

Sheridan goes on to talk about how he got into the DC comics universe, and to be able to tell such a personal story jumping off of the work Geoff Johns laid out.

Check out these incredibly gorgeous covers (issues 1 - 5) by artist David Talaski. WOW!!

““It’s been an incredibly personal story. I’m grateful to not only DC for giving me an opportunity to tell it, but also to Geoff Johns for opening that door. I mean, Geoff is, to me, the very definition of an ally, and he’s interested in lifting up people’s voices, not only mine but Alan Scott’s voice.”

One more thing, before I wrap up, if you see Tim Sheridan at a future Canadian comic show, be sure to bring him a bag of his new FAVOURITE chips: RUFFLES: ALL DRESSED!

Now, go on and hit play, and enjoy the full interview with Tim Sheridan. Thank you, Tim!
