The creative team of Rick Overwater (writer) and Cam Hayden (artist) recently found out that their graphic novel, FUTILITY: Orange Planet Horror (published by Coffin Hop Press), is nominated for an Aurora award - Best Graphic Novel for 2019. This is the highest award one can get in Canadian science fiction, and these awards are put on by the Canadian Science-Fiction and Fantasy Association. This is a well-deserved nomination for the creative duo who have been working in comics for just over five years. I spoke with them at Edmonton Expo 2019 about the nomination, which you can listen to below.
These former band mates have graced us with one of the coolest space stories in comics. I’ve said in the past that the story is completely fuc*ed up, and by that I mean, it’s totally awesome! It’s such a fun story. You’ve got to get your hands on this book and go on a space journey you’ll never forget.
With that, I raise a beer or three to Rick and Cam on the nomination, and I can’t wait to read more Futility.
