The following is an interview with Ben Saunders, Chief Curator of Marvel Universe of Super Heroes exhibit at TELUS WORLD OF SCIENCE Edmonton - for its only Canadian stop. A little background on Saunders, he founded the first undergraduate minor in Comic Studies (in the United States) at the University of Oregon.
As the late, great Stan “The Man” Lee would say: “Okay, true believers, get ready for something truly spectacular.” Well, at Telus World of Science Edmonton (Alberta, Canada) you are in for an unbelievably incredible treat. Marvel Universe of Super Heroes is an interactive exhibit that showcases works from the first 80 years of Marvel Comics, as well as its long reach into TV, movies and pop culture itself. There is pretty much everything you can imagine for the die-hard fan. And don’t worry, because you don’t need a PhD in Comics to enjoy an exhibit like this one. It’s a truly interactive gem. It features some of the rarest original art, as well as rare comics spanning back to Marvel Comics #1, which was released in 1939. If that’s not enough for you, the only surviving page of production art from the comic: Marvel Comics #1. A very unique piece by legendary artist Bill Everett. Please have a listen to the full audio interview. If you can’t get to the show - UPDATED: which concludes TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2020 - then check out the mini-gallery below. Stay tuned for a much larger gallery to be published mid-February.
