With last week’s release of the epic Star Trek event, LORE WAR, I am happy to bring you this absolutely super-fun interview I did with Heather Antos, Group Editor at ID Comics and Entertainment (formerly known as IDW Publishing), at the 2024 Fan Expo San Francisco. We chatted about the now-released event series, Antos’ Taylor Swift art, and also how she balances work versus art and going to conventions. And, for those who may not know, Antos is a fantastic artist and is the co-creator behind two incredible characters: Gwenpool, and Doctor Aphra.
It was great to see Antos again, having previously met and chatted with her a few years ago, I had to of course start our interview at the most obvious spot: Taylor Swift. Her latest pieces are a series of Eras Tour prints which are simply incredible! I didn’t hesitate, and bought two for my daughter and one for her friend. Antos talks about her influences when it comes to her art, and with regard to the Swiftie set, she had this to say:
“…it’s been a fun drawing challenge. Especially too for me…just trying to push and challenge myself as an artist because I’m still fairly new to drawing and drawing is still very scary for me…so it’s been a great exercise in trying different body poses and movement and backgrounds…it’s been really fun to bring these prints to shows, and see people who share in the fandom…it’s been a really cool bonding experience.”
We shifted gears, and at the time of this interview promo for LORE WAR had just been released, so she gave some insights, or not, at this epic comics event. The story as Antos put it is:
“…what we are internally referring to as Star Trek meets House M meets Secret wars.”
It’s written by the HiveMind Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly (Star Trek), as well as Christopher Cantwell (Star Trek: Defiant), and art by Davide Tinto. Side note: I just read part one of LORE WAR and it’s effin’ awesome! You need to pick this up—now!
Okay, I have rambled on here long enough. Hit play and listen to this fun interview with Heather Antos.
