Cam Hayden: Oddballs of Country Music cards, and his work with Danko Jones
The following interview was written and recorded by Chris Doucher, Managing Editor for GeekNerdNet.
Cam Hayden is a Canadian artist based in Calgary, Alberta. His works include the comic series Futility (with writer Rick Overwater) which just released double-sized volume five with publisher Coffin Hop Press, his earlier work collected in the one-shot Shitty Stories, and his recently released line of original art sketch cards called Oddballs of Country Music. “This is one of the funnest things I’ve done in a super long time,” says Hayden about his sketch card set. The series of 10 cards is like a set of mini comics because each card has a great - and hilariously in-depth - story on the back. Hayden goes on to talk about his earlier work of Shitty Stories, current work on B Movie Garbage with writer Chad Colpitts - published by Tongue in Cheek Comics. Finally, saving a very cool thing for last, Hayden tells us about how he was hired to work for Danko Jones, who featured one of his sketches in Jones’ recently released book: I’ve Got Something To Say - 10 Years of Rock and Roll Ramblings.
Hayden will be at the Saskatoon Expo this weekend (September 15 & 16), so go visit him and check out all of his awesome work. And if you can’t see him this weekend, then make your way to see him (as well as Rick Overwater) at the Edmonton Expo, September 21-23.
