Living in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada, Bulckaert says the story came from his experiences of living in the north, as he grew up with a Dad who was always away working in other countries. He expands on this and how he was taken aback by the large Somali taxi-cab community working in Yellowknife, and how the father would be working there while the rest of his family is back in Somalia. With this story he wanted to find a way to talk about the greatness that is the north and how the story talks about a boy living back in Somalia with his mom, and his dad writes his son wild and out there stories about the north that his kid would never see.
